Do you know where I can find God?

Dominion, angles, Syfy

Dominion, Syfy, Where is GodThis is a question that has been explored through out the centuries. Without fail, there have been numerous explanations such as; He is within you, or you are God and the third biggest one is that there is no God. This is the premise of a new show named Dominion on Syfy.

According to Wikipedia, Dominion is based on an earlier movie named Legion. Legion is a movie in which we find Michael, the arch angel, in a diner protecting a pregnant young girl name Charlie. Michael explains that God has lost faith in mankind and has sent His angels to destroy the human race. He also reveals that Charlie’s baby must stay alive, as it is destined to be the savior of mankind; Michael disobeyed God’s order to kill Charlie’s baby, as he still has faith in humanity.

Dominion is the continuation of this story line. An army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, has waged a war of possession against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, has chosen to side with humanity against Gabriel. After the 25-year-long battle, newly fortified cities have arisen to protect human survivors.

The premise of the movie and the show rely on the fact that God lost faith in humanity. I was curious to see the show and in the one episode that I saw Gabriel says that God was so disappointed with humanity that He didn’t just turn His back on them but He left and is no where to be found. This statement hit me like a ton of bricks because of its falsehood but also because it puts new flesh to the age old notion that God is no where to be found. Furthermore, the fault lies in us, humanity.

This brings to mind one particular story in the bible in which God seems to have lost faith in humanity, but instead of leaving them to their own devices He seeks to restore them through a righteous person. (Please, save your money and don’t see or buy the latest Noah movie, it’s pure fiction.) The bible says that Noah was righteous and blameless in the sight of God. He lived in a time where chaos, evil, selfishness and power where the only things that matter to people. Yet God did not disappear, He did not leave. He used Noah and his family to redeem and repopulate the earth.

Are we perfect? No, but God knows this and despite this over glaring fact He still loves us. I am not surprise that Jesus has not been mention in the show, at least to my knowledge. I am curious to see if they include Him or the Holy Spirit and how they explain their absence. Honestly, this borders on blasphemy, since the premise of the show ignores the work of the Holy Spirit. I know it’s fiction, but if we think about it, this is just a new way to once again explain God out of our lives and become reliant on our own devices, strength and knowledge.

The only one with all power and dominion is God.

Thoughts anyone?

Lost

I have been watching Lost lately, especially since I own the first three seasons. I am convinced that it is one of the best shows produce. Watching it for the second time has been interesting. I remember certain parts while others have taken me by surprise. Since I’ve seen it before it has been interesting picking up the subtle hints and nuances and how things are connected.

One of the story lines that seems to be getting me annoyed is the Kate, Sawyer and Jack triangle. I am mainly annoyed with Kate, how is it that you fall for someone that has con you, lied to you and seems to not care about you, while Jack who has been understanding and supportive gets the short end of the stick. I guess Kate and Sawyer deserve each other, you know con with a con. Though knowing who Sawyer ends up with towards the end was a bit surprising.

I guess I am a Jack fan, but I know that he also has his flaws and can be hard headed. His penchant need to fix everything and to be the knight in shinning armor does get a bit over the top. None the less I am still a huge fan of the show.
